Georgia Southern took a little while to warm up, but they followed up a slow three-point first quarter with 17 points in the second. The Runnin' Bulldogs countered with 6 points. The Eagles were outperformed in the second half 19-10 but had enough points saved up to walk away with the win.
Georgia Southern's RB Logan Wright was one of the most active players for the team, rushing for one TD and 178 yards on 26 carries. Georgia Southern also got a significant boost from RB Amare Jones, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 100 yards.

Despite the defeat, Gardner-Webb had strong showings from QB Bailey Fisher, who passed for three TDs and 315 yards on 46 attempts, and WR T.J. Luther, who caught six passes for one TD and 164 yards. The contest pushed Gardner-Webb down to 0-1 and pulled the Eagles up to the reverse at 1-0.
Georgia Southern will square off against the Florida Atlantic Owls at 3:30 p.m. ET next Saturday at FAU Stadium.
