The Eagles easily defeated Savannah State 83-9, scoring the second-most points of the past 14 years. Oklahoma State beat Savannah State 84-0 in 2012.
Georgia Southern also was one-point short of a school record for most points in a single game as it beat Johnson C. Smith 84-3 in 2004 as a member of the Southern Conference in FCS.
It was a rough night for Savannah State, which allowed 695 yards of offense and didn't pass midfield until early in the third quarter. Georgia Southern tied a school record for touchdowns with 12, scoring 10 on the ground, and did not punt in the contest.
