Florida State vs. Southern Miss: Live updates, score, results, highlights, for Saturday's NCAA Football game
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Florida State vs. Southern Miss football game
The Southern Miss Golden Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Florida State Seminoles at 8:30 p.m. ET on Saturday at Bobby Bowden Field at Doak Campbell Stadium. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Southern Miss took care of business in their home opener on Saturday. They took down Alcorn State 40-14. The match was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Southern Miss had established a 30 point advantage.
Special teams played a big role in the game, adding 16 points to the final score. All those points came courtesy of K Andrew Stein: he added 12 points with four field goals, and another four kicking extra points. His longest was a 52-yard strike in the third quarter.
Meanwhile, Florida State didn't have too much trouble with LSU at home on Sunday as they won 45-24.
WR Keon Coleman and QB Jordan Travis were among the main playmakers for Florida State as the former found the endzone three times on 122 receiving yards and the latter threw for 342 yards and four touchdowns on 31 attempts. Coleman's longest reception was for 41 yards. It was a true group effort though, and the team also got help from TE Jaheim Bell, who posted 49 yards for a touchdown plus a rushing score.
Southern Miss will need to dig deep on Saturday, as the experts think they're headed for a loss. They finished last season with a stellar 10-3 record against the spread, so they might be worth a quick bet.
That disadvantage in the odds might be especially worrying for Southern Miss considering the team was a sub-par 2-5 as the underdog last season. Betting on them to win was the most profitable play last year, as bettors who put $100 on that outcome in every game walked away with $692.99. On the other hand, Florida State will play as the favorite, and the team was 8-1 as such last season.
