FIU vs. Old Dominion updates: Live NCAAF game scores, results for Saturday
Live scores, highlights and updates from the FIU vs. Old Dominion football game
Game Recap
After constant struggles on the road, the Old Dominion Monarchs have finally found some success away from home. They were the clear victors by a 47-24 margin over the FIU Panthers. The oddsmakers were on Old Dominion's side, but they didn't give the team enough credit as the margin was unexpectedly wide.
The Monarchs' offense rushed out of the gates and came up with 24 first-half points. The Panthers weren't quite able to keep up, and the score was 24-10 heading into the break. Old Dominion's offense just added to that total in the second half en route to their big win.
Old Dominion's RB Blake Watson did his thing and rushed for two TDs and 158 yards on 28 carries. That's the most rushing touchdowns Watson has had all year. Old Dominion's DE Deeve Harris got in on the action, too, converting a pick in the fourth quarter into a touchdown.
Old Dominion's defense was a presence as well, as it got past FIU's offensive line to sack the QB four times for a total loss of 24 yards. It was a group effort with four guys contributing.
WR Bryce Singleton put forth a good effort for the losing side as he caught six passes for two TDs and 199 yards. Near the top of the highlight reel was Max Bortenschlager's 65-yard TD bomb to Singleton in the third quarter.
The victory bumped the Monarchs' record up to 3-6. The Panthers' overall record fell to 1-8.
Old Dominion will square off against the Florida Atlantic Owls at 3:30 p.m. ET next Saturday at Kornblau Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium. Unlike Old Dominion, Florida Atlantic will be limping in after taking a loss. As for FIU, they will face off against the Middle Tenn. Blue Raiders at 3:30 p.m. ET next Saturday at Johnny (Red) Floyd Stadium. Middle Tenn. is hoping for a better outcome this contest after a 48-21 loss to the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.
