East Carolina will be in front of their home fans on Saturday, but a look at the spread shows they might need that home-field advantage. They will take on the Tulane Green Wave at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. East Carolina is staggering into the matchup hobbled by four consecutive losses, while Tulane will skip in buoyed by six consecutive wins.
Last Saturday, East Carolina ended up a good deal behind UTSA and lost 41-27.
Despite the loss, East Carolina had strong showings from Alex Flinn, who threw for 225 yards and two touchdowns, and Jaylen Johnson, who picked up 105 receiving yards and a touchdown. Dontavius Nash got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Saturday Tulane sidestepped Rice for a 30-28 win.
Tulane can attribute much of their success to Makhi Hughes, who rushed for 153 yards, and Michael Pratt, who threw for 263 yards and two touchdowns while completing 73.3% of his passes. Hughes is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last four games he's played.
East Carolina's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 1-7. As for Tulane, their victory bumped their record up to 7-1.
While only Tulane took care of their fans the last time they played, neither team managed to cover. Looking ahead, Tulane shouldn't be too worried about this matchup, as the experts have them favored by 16.5 points. This contest will be their seventh straight as the favorites (so far over this stretch they are 2-4 against the spread).
East Carolina ended up a good deal behind Tulane when the teams last played back in October of 2022, losing 24-9. Will East Carolina have more luck at home instead of on the road?
