Connecticut vs. Marshall updates: Live NCAA Football game scores, results for Monday
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Connecticut vs. Marshall football game
The Marshall Thundering Herd have had a week off and are no doubt ready to get back on the field. Bowl season is underway, and they and the Connecticut Huskies will compete for postseason bragging rights in the Myrtle Beach Bowl at Brooks Stadium at 2:30 p.m. ET on Monday. Marshall will be strutting in after a victory while UConn will be stumbling in from a defeat.
The Thundering Herd didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup with the Georgia State Panthers three weeks ago, but they still walked away with a 28-23 win. Marshall can attribute much of their success to RB Khalan Laborn, who rushed for two TDs and 100 yards on 11 carries, and QB Cam Fancher, who passed for two TDs and 208 yards on 28 attempts in addition to picking up 69 yards on the ground. Laborn put himself on the highlight reel with an 83-yard TD scramble in the second quarter.
Marshall's defense was a presence as well, as it embarrassed Georgia State's offensive line to sack QB Darren Grainger seven times for a total loss of 36 yards. Leading the way was DL Koby Cumberlander and his three sacks. Cumberlander now has 5.5 sacks this year.
Meanwhile, the Huskies ended up a good deal behind the Army West Point Black Knights when they played four weeks ago, losing 34-17. The losing side was boosted by RB Victor Rosa, who rushed for one TD and 111 yards on 12 carries.
The Thundering Herd are the favorite in this one, with an expected 10-point margin of victory. But bettors beware: they are only 3-6 against the spread when favored.
A couple defensive numbers to keep in mind before kickoff: Marshall comes into the contest boasting the sixth fewest rushing touchdowns allowed in the nation at eight. As for the Huskies, they enter the game with only 13 passing touchdowns allowed, good for 13th best in the nation.
