Game Recap
When you finish with 280 more yards than your opponent like the Clemson Tigers did on Saturday, a favorable outcome is almost sure to follow. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 49-3 victory over the South Carolina State Bulldogs. The high-flying offensive effort was a definite turnaround from Clemson's flat performance the contest before.
The Tigers' offense came in ready to rumble, picking up 35 points in the first half. South Carolina State wasn't quite able to keep up, and the score was 35-3 heading into the break. Clemson put the matchup away in the third quarter with 14 points from the offense and zero points allowed from the defense.
Clemson's RB Will Shipley looked sharp as he punched in two rushing touchdowns. Shipley hadn't helped his team much against the Georgia Bulldogs last week, so this was a nice turnaround for him. QB D.J. Uiagalelei had a good game, too, finishing with three touchdowns.
The win got Clemson back to even at 1-1. The defeat dropped the Bulldogs' record to 0-2.
The Tigers will be hunkering down at home again for their game against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at 3:30 p.m. ET Sept. 18 at Memorial Stadium. Georgia Tech is coming in off of a big 45-17 win over the Kennesaw State Owls. South Carolina State is staying on the road next Saturday to face off against the New Mexico State Aggies at 8 p.m. ET Sept. 18 at Aggie Memorial Stadium. Neither South Carolina State nor New Mexico State could muster much offensive firepower in their last games, so look to the defense to decide this one.
