The Virginia Tech Hokies will head out on the road to face off against the Boston College Eagles at 12:00 p.m. ET on Saturday at Alumni Stadium. Despite being away, Virginia Tech is looking at a 1.5-point advantage in the spread.
Virginia Tech gave up the first points and the most points on Saturday. It's going to take some time for them to recover from the 34-3 bruising that Louisville dished out on Saturday. Having soared to a lofty 38 points in the game before, Virginia Tech's point total in this one was quite the letdown.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, the Hokies were plagued by a slow offense and finished the game with only 2.7 yards per play. They were destroyed by their opponents in that department as Louisville advanced 7.5.
Meanwhile, Boston College had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They came out on top against Syracuse by a score of 17-10. That's two games straight that Boston College has won by exactly seven points.
Thomas Castellanos was the offensive standout of the contest as he rushed for 87 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 165 yards and a touchdown.
Virginia Tech's defeat was their fourth straight on the road , which bumped their record down to 4-5. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's lackluster offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 13.3 points per game. As for Boston College, their win bumped their record up to 6-3.
Boston College is hoping to beat the odds on Saturday, as the experts think they're headed for a loss. For those looking to play the spread, watch out: Boston College is playing at home, but their 1-4 record against the spread as such isn't exactly encouraging.
Virginia Tech strolled past Boston College when the teams last played back in September of 2022 by a score of 27-10. The rematch might be a little tougher for Virginia Tech since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
