Live scores, highlights and updates from the Auburn vs. Akron football game
Game Recap
When you finish with 424 more yards than your opponent like the Auburn Tigers did on Saturday, a favorable outcome is almost sure to follow. They steamrolled past the Akron Zips 60-10 at home. The Tigers were heavily favored coming into this game, and the results showcase why.
Auburn's offense came in ready to rumble, picking up 37 points in the first half. Meanwhile, Akron couldn't get anything going offensively, leaving the score at 37 to nothing heading into the break. Auburn put the matchup away in the third quarter with 16 points from the offense and zero points allowed from the defense.
Auburn relied on the efforts of RB Tank Bigsby, who rushed for two TDs and 119 yards on 13 carries, and QB Bo Nix, who passed for three TDs and 275 yards on 22 attempts in addition to picking up 32 yards on the ground. RB Shaun Shivers also deserves a shout-out for his two TDs.
Akron's only offensive touchdown came from RB Jonzell Norrils. The contest pushed the Zips down to 0-1 and pulled the Tigers up to the reverse at 1-0.
Auburn will play host again and welcome the Alabama State Hornets to Jordan-Hare Stadium, where kick-off is scheduled for 12 p.m. ET next Saturday. Like Auburn, Alabama State is also coming into the game bolstered by a recent win. Akron will be playing at home against the Temple Owls at 3:30 p.m. ET next Saturday. Temple is hoping for a better outcome this matchup after a 61-14 loss to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
