Army vs. Troy updates: Live NCAA Football game scores, results for Saturday
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Army West Point vs. Troy football game
Army will be in front of their home fans on Saturday, but a look at the spread shows they might need that home-field advantage. They will take on the Troy Trojans at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. Army will really need to gear up for this challenge, as Troy will be their toughest opponent yet.
The point spread favored Army last Saturday, but luck did not. They fell just short of Boston College by a score of 27-24. That means Army has now suffered back-to-back defeats.
Despite their defeat, Army saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Bryson Daily, who threw for 105 yards and a touchdown while completing 76.9% of his passes, and also rushed for 99 yards on only 14 carries, was perhaps the best of all.
Meanwhile, Troy had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.3 points), and they went ahead and made it three. They really took it to Arkansas State for the full four quarters, racking up a 37-3 victory at home. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 20-0.
Kimani Vidal had a dynamite game for Troy, rushing for 245 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.8 yards per carry. Vidal was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 69 yards. Gunnar Watson was another key contributor, throwing for 236 yards and a touchdown while picking up 11.2 yards per attempt.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Arkansas State to a paltry 203 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Troy's ability to keep the quarterback under presure: the team laid him out five times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Javon Solomon and his two sacks.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Troy, adding 13 points to the final score. All those points came courtesy of Scott Taylor Renfroe: he added nine points with three field goals, and another four kicking extra points.
Troy's win bumped their season record to 4-2 while Army's defeat dropped theirs to 2-3.
Looking ahead, Troy is the favorite in this one, as the experts expect to see them win by four points. This contest might not be the best time to bet them against the spread since they've let bettors down the last four times they've played.
Army and Troy were almost perfectly matched up when the teams last played last November, but Army suffered an agonizing 10-9 loss. Will Army have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to find expert analysis of the match and other college football content.
