Live scores, highlights and updates from the Appalachian State vs. East Carolina football game
Game Recap
The Appalachian State Mountaineers beat the East Carolina Pirates 33-19 on Thursday.
Appalachian State can attribute much of their success to RB Camerun Peoples, who rushed for two TDs and 100 yards on 14 carries. QB Chase Brice didn't exactly stuff the stat sheet, but finished with two touchdowns.
The Mountaineers' defense was a presence as well, as it got past East Carolina's offensive line to sack QB Holton Ahlers four times for a total loss of 27 yards. It was a group effort with four guys contributing.
A silver lining for the Pirates was the play of RB Keaton Mitchell, who caught six passes for one TD and 80 yards. One of the most thrilling moments was Mitchell's 63-yard TD reception in the first quarter.
The game pushed East Carolina down to 0-1 and pulled Appalachian State up to the reverse at 1-0.
Appalachian State will take on the Miami (FL) Hurricanes at 7 p.m. ET next week at Hard Rock Stadium. As for East Carolina, they will face off against the South Carolina Gamecocks at noon ET next week at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.
