The Appalachian State Mountaineers won the last time they faced the Arkansas State Red Wolves, and things went their way on Thursday, too. The Mountaineers were the clear victors by a 45-17 margin over Arkansas State. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Appalachian State had established a 38-17 advantage.
QB Zac Thomas had a stellar game for Appalachian State as he passed for four TDs and 216 yards on 23 attempts in addition to rushing for one TD and 82 yards. Thomas put himself on the highlight reel with a 60-yard TD scramble in the third quarter. WR Christian Wells was in the mix, too, providing Appalachian State with two touchdowns.
No one had a standout game offensively for Arkansas State, but they got scores from RB Jamal Jones and RB Lincoln Pare.
The victory bumped the Mountaineers' record up to 2-1. The loss dropped the Red Wolves back to even at 2-2.
Appalachian State will take on the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks at 7 p.m. ET next week at JPS Field at James L. Malone Stadium. As for Arkansas State, they will go up against the Troy Trojans at 1 p.m. ET next week at Centennial Bank Stadium. If the contest is anything like Arkansas State's 50-43 win from their previous meeting September of last year, the scorekeeper will be kept real busy.
