Akron vs. Miami (OH) Live updates Score, results, highlights, for Saturday's NCAAF game
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Akron vs. Miami (OH) football game
Game Recap
The Akron Zips weren't able to make up for their loss to the Miami (OH) RedHawks from their previous meeting last November. Akron has to be aching after a bruising 38-7 defeat to Miami (OH) Saturday. The Zips haven't found any success against Miami (OH) since Oct. 8 of 2016, this loss making it four in a row.
WR Jack Sorenson hadn't helped Miami (OH)'s cause all that much against the Buffalo Bulls two weeks ago, but the same can't be said for this contest. Sorenson and QB Brett Gabbert were among the main playmakers for Miami (OH) as the former caught eight passes for four TDs and 177 yards and the latter passed for four TDs and 308 yards on 27 attempts in addition to picking up 48 yards on the ground. Near the top of the highlight reel was Gabbert's 61-yard TD bomb to Sorenson in the first quarter. Miami (OH)'s DB Emmanuel Rugamba got in on the action, too, converting a pick in the third quarter into a touchdown.
The RedHawks' defense was a presence as well, as it embarrassed the Zips' offensive line to sack QB Zach Gibson seven times total. Leading the way was DL Kameron Butler and his 2.5 sacks. Those were the first sacks for Butler through three games.
No one had a standout game offensively for Akron, but they got one touchdown from Gibson.
Akron's overall record fell to 0-4. The victory improved Miami (OH)'s record to 2-1.
The Zips will be hunkering down at home again for their game against the Bowling Green Falcons at 2 p.m. ET Dec. 5 at Summa Field at InfoCision Stadium. Both of those teams have had a rocky road up to this point with four consecutive losses apiece. As for the RedHawks, they will go up against the Kent State Golden Flashes at noon ET next week at Fred C. Yager Stadium. Miami (OH)'s defense will surely be attentive in the film room this week preparing for a Kent State offense that has put up 50 points on average.
