Hawks' Onyeka Okongwu: Won't play Monday
Okongwu is out for rest purposes in Monday's preseason game against the Heat, Kevin Chouinard of the Hawks' official site reports.
The big man will join the rest of Atlanta's starting lineup in the sidelines Monday. Okongwu's next shot to take the floor is Thursday against Houston.

Hawks' Onyeka Okongwu: Strong showing in bench role
Okongwu finished with 12 points (4-7 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT), six rebounds and one assist in 21 minutes during Saturday's 122-116 preseason win over the Grizzlies.
Okongwu put together another strong final line off the bench, shooting with efficiency on the offensive end. Kristaps Porzingis drew a second straight preseason start. Still, it's abundantly clear that both Porzingis and Okongwu will continue to be heavily involved in the frontcourt heading into the regular season.

Okongwu produced 11 points (4-8 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT), one rebound, one assist and one steal across 18 minutes of Monday's 122-113 preseason loss to Houston.
Kristaps Porzingis drew the start next to Jalen Johnson, but he played a minimal workload of 15 minutes with five points to show for it. The Hawks have stressed all offseason that Okongwu and Porzingis will both be heavily involved. Starting lineups likely aren't set in stone yet, and the franchise may experiment throughout the preseason.

Hawks' Onyeka Okongwu: Coming off bench Monday
Okongwu will come off the bench in Monday's preseason game against the Rockets, Kevin Chouinard of the Hawks' official site reports.
Okongwu finished the 2024-25 campaign as a mainstay in the starting five, though he'll come off the bench in Monday's preseason opener. Over 74 regular-season appearances (40 starts) last season, the 24-year-old center averaged 13.4 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.9 blocks across 27.9 minutes per game.

Hawks' Onyeka Okongwu: Massive double-double in loss
Okongwu posted 28 points (12-19 FG, 4-8 3Pt), 12 rebounds, one assist, one block and three steals in 50 minutes during Friday's 123-114 overtime Play-In Game loss to Miami.
Okongwu played a game-high 50 minutes in Friday's elimination game, and he finished as the game's leading rebounder and third in points behind Tyler Herro (30) and Trae Young (29). Okongwu earned a permanent spot in Atlanta's starting lineup January 20 and established himself as a cornerstone piece for the franchise. As a starter during the regular season, Okongwu averaged 14.9 points on 58.1 percent shooting, 10.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.9 blocks over 31.1 minutes per game.

Hawks' Onyeka Okongwu: Grabs nine boards in Play-In Game
Okongwu registered 11 points (5-10 FG, 1-2 3Pt), nine rebounds, three assists and one block in 33 minutes in Tuesday's 120-95 Play-In Game loss to the Magic.
Okongwu was one rebound shy from recording a double-double, and he finished second on the Hawks in boards behind Dyson Daniels (12). Okongwu ended the regular season having averaged 15.6 points, 10.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.0 blocks over 32.2 minutes per game since the All-Star break. The Hawks will play at home Friday for the eighth spot in the East against the winner of Wednesday's Play-In Game between the Bulls and Heat.

Hawks' Onyeka Okongwu: Absent from injury report
Okongwu (knee) is off the injury report for Tuesday's Play-In Game against the Magic, Lauren L. Williams of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
After sitting out Sunday's regular-season finale against Orlando, Okongwu is unsurprisingly set to be available for Tuesday's meeting with the Magic. With Clint Capela (hand) still out of action, Okongwu should dominate the center minutes for the Hawks. Okongwu put together a breakout campaign in 2024-25, and he averaged 16.2 points, 11.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.8 blocks in 33.3 minutes over his final 14 games of the regular season.

Hawks' Onyeka Okongwu: Won't play Sunday
Okongwu (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Magic, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
Okongwu has been downgraded from questionable to out and will be joined on the sidelines by Georges Niang (rest), Trae Young (Achilles), Clint Capela (hand), Dyson Daniels (rest) and Caris LeVert (knee). They should all be back in action for Atlanta's Play-In Tournament matchup against the Magic on Tuesday.
