Draft Scouting Report

Pro Comparison: Doug McDermott
Summary

Karaban had a storied career at Connecticut that culminated with his jersey being retired on senior day. A four year starter who won back-to-back national championships as a freshman and sophomore, he returned to UConn for two more years after initially declaring for the 2024 NBA Draft. He ended up as the program’s all-time leader in wins, games played, starts, minutes, and 3-pointers.

About
  • Two-time National Champion and the 5th player in the last 50 years to start in three national championship games.
  • Tied for second most wins as a starter in NCAA Tournament history (18).
  • 2026 First Team All-Big East after averaging 13.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.4 assists on 46/37/85 shooting.
Strengths
  • Shooter with extreme gravity. Shot 53% on unguarded catch-and-shoots 3-pointers. Also has excellent touch around the rim ranking in the 84th percentile with his floater and 91st as a lay-up maker.
  • High feel processor of the game. Excellent passer within the flow of the offense who makes quick reads with the ball and equally good cutter.
  • Deceptive length with a 6-11 wingspan and soft natural hands.
Weaknesses
  • Not a naturally explosive athlete in terms of vertical explosiveness or lateral quickness, so he relies on acumen, angles, and physicality defensively.
  • A bit in between positions, particularly on the defensive end, at 6-6.75.
  • Much more of a connector, floor-spacer, and decision maker than he is a dynamic creator. Built to be a role player, not an offensive hub.
Combine Data
  • Wingspan: 6 feet, 11 inches
  • Standing vertical leap: 28 inches
  • Standing reach: 8 feet, 8.5 inches
  • Lane agility: 11.19 seconds
  • Three quarter sprint: 3.28 seconds
  • Max vertical leap: 33 inches
