Coach Tony Bennett has suspended star transfer forward Austin Nichols for all organized Virginia basketball competition over the next two weeks. This includes team scrimmages, exhibitions and the Cavs' season-opening game at home against UNC Greensboro.
In its statement on the punishment, Virginia did not disclose the reason for the suspension. Nichols' transgression is dubbed a "violation of team rules."
Nichols, a player we rank 21st in all of college basketball, is eligible to play this season after sitting out in 2015-16 due to his transfer from Memphis.
Nichols averaged 13.3 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.4 blocks with Memphis in 2014-15.
