Thursday Night Football betting preview
Steelers defensive tackle Camearon Heyward has given this matchup a nickname that is utterly fitting, given the quarterback matchup: "The Icy Hot Bowl." Johnson jokingly uttered the phrase during Aaron Rodgers' media availability the week leading up to the matchup between the two oldest quarterbacks in the NFL, with Rodgers also being the oldest player in the entire league regardless of position. Rodgers turns 42 in December, and Joe Flacco, set to make his second start for the Bengals, turns 41 in January as both veterans look to lead their teams on a successful run in their 40s.
The Steelers are 4-1 in Rodgers' first five games in Pittsburgh, and are coming off a 23-9 win over the Browns, Flacco's former team. Cleveland traded the veteran quarterback to the Bengals the week of last week's game against the Packers, and the Bengals lost, 27-18. Jake Browning struggled filling in for Joe Burrow (toe), leading the Bengals to take the chance on the 40-year-old signal caller.
The Bengals (2-4) showed late offensive signs of life against the Packers, scoring 11 points in the fourth quarter. Ja'Marr Chase had 10 receptions for 94 yards and a touchdown on 12 targets, as Flacco and Chase forming chemistry will be integral to Cincinnati's hopes of snapping a four-game losing streak. The Steelers are favored by 5.5 points in the latest Steelers vs. Bengals NFL odds at Fanatics Sportsbook, with an over/under set at 45 points.
