Tigers' Andy Ibanez: Slams pinch-hit home run
Appearing as a pinch hitter, Ibanez went 1-for-1 with a solo home run in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Royals.
Ibanez gave the Tigers some breathing room in the eighth inning, when he appeared as pinch hitter for Colt Keith and promptly delivered his fourth home run of the season. The veteran utility player has settled in as a bench option for Detroit, giving the team a right-handed bat to complement the left-handed Keith, who is often lifted when southpaws come in from the bullpen. Ibanez is valuable depth for the Tigers, though his role doesn't carry much fantasy appeal at the moment.

Tigers' Tyler Holton: Secures 14th hold Saturday
Holton tossed 1.1 scoreless innings of relief to earn a hold in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Royals. He allowed a hit and struck out one.
Following five innings from starter Chris Paddack and another 1.1 innings from Troy Melton, Holton came on as the bridge to closer Will Vest, with Kyle Finnegan likely unavailable after logging two innings the day before. Holton continued his steady play for the Tigers and recorded his 14th hold of the season, which leads the team. He's not in the mix for saves with Vest and Finnegan around, though the lefty has some fantasy appeal in leagues that count holds, and he's also chipped in five wins out of the bullpen for good measure.

Tigers' Jake Rogers: Drives in two in win
Rogers went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Royals.
Picking up a start for Dillon Dingler, Rogers managed his third double of the season and collected his 15th and 16th RBI. It's been a struggle for the veteran catcher, who is slashing just .182/.278/.323 overall. The drop in power is most noticeable for Rogers, who had a .444 slugging percentage back in 2023, when he also smashed a career-high 21 home runs. That dropped to .352 last year during the regular season and now .323 in 2025, and the 30-year-old has had to settle for a backup role behind Dingler as his production has fallen off.

Tigers' Spencer Torkelson: Homers in win
Torkelson went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Royals.
Torkelson put the Tigers ahead 2-1 with a 408-foot homer in the fourth inning and later added a single in the sixth. The 25-year-old has hit safely in seven of his past 10 games, though he's managed just three extra-base hits, three RBI and five runs scored in that span. For the season, he's slashing .244/.337/.479 with 27 homers, 69 RBI, 70 runs scored and two steals across 522 plate appearances.

Tigers' Chris Paddack: Battles for fifth win
Paddack (5-11) earned the win against the Royals on Saturday, allowing one run on five hits and one walk with one strikeout over five innings.
Paddack kept the Royals in check despite landing just 37 of 62 pitches for strikes and generating just one whiff. It was a solid rebound after the 29-year-old surrendered eight runs Sunday, though he's managed only nine punchouts across four August outings. He'll take a 4.98 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 97:32 K:BB over 137.1 innings into a road rematch with Kansas City next weekend.

Tigers' Will Vest: Secures 19th save
Vest retired all four batters he faced to earn the save in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Royals. He recorded two strikeouts.
Vest was summoned with a runner on third in the eighth inning and struck out Maikel Garcia before working a clean ninth. The 30-year-old has held opponents scoreless in eight of 10 August outings and now sports a 2.67 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 64:16 K:BB across 57.1 frames while converting 19 of 24 save chances. He continues to split closing duties with Kyle Finnegan, who was likely unavailable after throwing two innings Friday.

Tigers' Kevin Newman: Inks MiLB deal with DET
The Tigers signed Newman to a minor-league contract Saturday and assigned him to Triple-A Toledo, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Newman was released by the Angels on Aug. 2, and he's finally found a new home. His time with the Tigers will begin at the Triple-A level. The 31-year-old slashed .202/.209/.272 in 116 plate appearances. However, Newman's calling card is his defense.

Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Beginning on bench Saturday
Perez isn't in the starting lineup Saturday against Kansas City, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Perez will have at least a partial off day after starting in seven straight games and going 8-for-26 with a home run, two RBI, four runs and a stolen base over that span. The Tigers' outfield from left to right will consist of Riley Greene, Javier Baez and Kerry Carpenter on Saturday.

Tigers' Kyle Finnegan: Picks up win Friday
Finnegan (3-4) tossed two scoreless innings of relief to earn the win in Friday's 7-5 victory over the Royals. He walked one and struck out one.
Finnegan worked the seventh and eighth innings to earn the win out of the bullpen, with Will Vest covering the ninth. The former has two wins since joining Detroit at the trade deadline to go along with four saves and a hold. He's also sporting an impressive 0.00 ERA and 0.38 WHIP with 12 strikeouts across 10.2 innings with his new team. Both Finnegan and Vest are seeing ninth-inning work for the Tigers, giving both pitchers fantasy appeal but also capping their respective ceilings.

Tigers' Gleyber Torres: Scores twice in win
Torres went 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored in Friday's 7-5 win over the Royals.
Occupying his familiar No. 2 spot in the lineup, Torres continued to provide a spark for the Tigers. The veteran infielder has three multi-hit performances across his last six games, and he's slashing .261/.360/.399 overall in 115 contests. The .360 on-base percentage would be a new career best for Torres, driven in part by a 13.2 percent walk rate, which is up from 10 percent in 2024 with the Yankees.

Tigers' Riley Greene: Reaches 30-homer mark in win
Greene went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in Friday's 7-5 win over the Royals.
Greene tied the game with a 435-foot blast in the sixth inning. The 24-year-old has homered three times over his past eight games, though he's just 4-for-25 during that stretch and hitting .198 since the All-Star break. For the year, he's slashing .263/.318/.508 with 30 long balls, 67 runs scored and one steal while ranking fifth in the majors with 94 RBI across 525 plate appearances.

Tigers' Zach McKinstry: Sparks offense in win
McKinstry went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, a triple and an additional run scored in Friday's 7-5 win over the Royals.
McKinstry came a double shy of the cycle. It was a much-needed effort from the 30-year-old, who entered Friday mired in a 5-for-32 slump since his last homer Aug. 6. For the season, he's slashing .265/.340/.455 with 11 home runs, 41 RBI, 58 runs scored and 19 steals across 424 plate appearances.

Tigers' Casey Mize: Fails to record strikeout Friday
Mize did not factor into the decision in Friday's 7-5 win over the Royals, allowing three runs on nine hits and one walk without recording a strikeout over 5.2 innings.
Mize was undone by a three-run third inning and was fortunate overall given he yielded 14 hard-hit balls while managing just three whiffs on 87 pitches. It was a letdown after the 28-year-old notched a season-high 10 punchouts Saturday, and he now sports a 5.34 ERA across six outings since the All-Star break. For the season, he carries a 3.68 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 103:30 K:BB over 117.1 innings and lines up for a road matchup with the Athletics next week.

Tigers' Paul Sewald: Throwing off mound Saturday
Sewald (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session Saturday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
It appears to be the first time Sewald has thrown off a mound since he was diagnosed with a moderate teres major strain in mid-July. The veteran reliever is eligible for activation from the 60-day injured list Sept. 10 and hopes to join the Tigers' bullpen for the stretch run.

Tigers' Alex Lange: Sent to Triple-A
The Tigers optioned Lange to Triple-A Toledo on Friday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
The right-hander was reinstated from the 60-day IL this week and delivered a scoreless frame in his first MLB appearance since May of 2024, but he won't retain his spot in Detroit's bullpen. Drew Sommers was called up Friday to fill Lange's place on the roster.

Tigers' Drew Sommers: Call-up official
The Tigers selected Sommers' contract from Triple-A Toledo on Friday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Sommers will join the big-league bullpen for the first time in his career and will make his MLB debut when he enters a game. The 24-year-old has posted a 3.31 ERA and 41:14 K:BB across 32.2 innings with Toledo. Alex Lange was optioned to Triple-A and Ryan Kreidler was designated for assignment in corresponding moves.
