Fantasy NBA: Top 5 Weekly Boom and Bust Players

In our regular season start/sit advice column we use our projections to tell you when you may want to sit a highly rated player and start a lowly rated player. This is a season review of players who, when healthy, delivered boom weeks at a high rate and / or have been big busts that should have been benched. To determine if a player had a boom week we take that player's rank for the week and see if it is numerically 50% of his overall weekly average. A player who averages to be the 50th best player at his position would need to finish the week Top 25 to qualify. Conversely, a bust week is one where a player's rank is numerically 50% higher than their normal weekly rank.

Stephen Curry had a weekly average guard rank of #17 but he also had the highest rate of finishing significantly better than that. Out of 23 qualifying weeks, 13 were considered boom weeks. At the forward position, LeBron James was the leader in boom rate. Enes Kanter, in an average week, is the #20 center but he also has the highest bust rate at the position. In his 22 weeks, 6 were bad, busts. The table below shows the player with the five highest boom and bust rates. The rank is based on the player's average position rank per week and not their season total fantasy points.
